For this week's topic, I have designated this space for you to discuss questions, feedback, suggestions, etc. with your classmates. All are encouraged to post and reply to one another's comments. I'd like you to become more interactive with one another as a group. Keep in mind that this will count toward your weekly class participation.
I feel like my computer is stubborn sometimes because I know I am typing in the right font, or clicking the merge cells button, but it never seems to work. Anyone else having this frustrating problem?
ReplyDeleteI also feel like I am learning in the process. I never knew how to draw a table or how to make a watermark on a document. I think this course is the most challenging for me because I am so bad with computers, but I'm learning how to be not so bad.
Like Ashland I feel as though I'm in a learning process. I had a tough time downloading the items to complete the assignment, so I had to create my own version. Yikes! What a learning experience.
ReplyDeleteI wish I had this knowledge when I was working at my previous job. Just with what I have learned, I feel enlightened to see how things are done (properly) instead of being so lost when attemting to create documents. It's so fast once you know how to do it. Amazing...I am truly learning a lot.
I thought I knew quite a bit going into this class, but at the same time I knew I would learn a great deal too. I typically use MS Office for the same types of things, day in and day out, and knew there was a bunch more I wasn't using it for. So far I have learned some new shortcuts and like AshLand I learned how to draw a table. And don't worry Christine, I went crazy for two days trying to locate the right textbook online in order to download the Student Datafiles. Sometimes what should be easy is the exact opposite.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to realize I'm not the only one struggling while learning. I also had an experience trying to locate the datafiles. But, I have to say after figuring out how to do new things or access something, it makes it much less stressful. I'm enjoying the knowledge gained by the challenges this course is putting me through.
ReplyDeleteTim...I thought your comment was great! Very well put.
ReplyDeleteAshLand, I know exactly what you mean. I was having that same problem(computer has its own mind) tonight when I was creating the table for the directory. I know I was typing the right table options but the table looked so wrong. The text kept wrapping. It drove me crazy but I won this time. :)
ReplyDeleteThere are so many more tasks you can accomplish with MS Word than I was unaware of. I never used the design elements of Word before and learning about form letters is very helpful. Actually, a lot of stuff we've learned so far is very useful.
ReplyDeleteLike Ashley and others have mentioned, I too have issues with controls not doing what I want them to do. I also get a little confused when I change the color styles to the one referred to in the homework but it doesn't look the same as it does in the book. Has anyone else the issue where it looks blue instead of purple or a lighter green instead of a darker green?
I am looking forward to learning the other programs taught during this class. A few years ago I wasn't hired by a temp agency because I failed their MS Excel test. I'm sure that will be remedied soon by this class.
I hope everyone has a nice Columbus Day weekend.

Hello evryone,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that I wasn't the only one with the data file problem, this course is helpful but I was all set w/ word 3...hey times change.
Lets just all have a great weekend and try to relax for a day, take care. RT
Hello Everyone,
ReplyDeleteHope everyone is enjoying the sun finally!!!
Quick question for everyone: How many files do we need to submit this week on Lab 5?
I ended up with five files: form letter master, the merged form letters(instead of printing), labels, and 2 directories (one just like the table with hidden text and one that is alphabetized).
Sue
Sue,
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm not exactly sure what is needed for the Lab but I was going to submit the final versions of the letter, labels, envelopes, and directory.
James.
Wow. I really did not realize how much I DIDN'T know in Microsoft Word. I thought I had that program down to a science, but i suddenly realized after doing all these assignments, that I have already learned so much just in Microsoft Word.
ReplyDeleteLike Ashland & Christine I think I am having the same problem. I am also having an issue for some reason with my work and retrieving the download from SAM. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.
ReplyDeleteLike a few of the others, I was also having problems downloading the data files. I commonly have computer literacy issues and find them to be very frustrating. I hope that through this course I will be able to use the skills that I have accrued to my benefit in the future.
ReplyDeleteThanks James!
ReplyDeleteALong with those files we also need to attach the data source we created in order for the professor to open letter.
Sue
Meagan, I agree with you, I thought I knew how to use Microsoft word as well. I didnt realize how little I do know

I have definitely become much more efficient when I use MS Word for daily things at work and for school. It is nice to have a textbook that is essentially a guide that can help everything you type or print out look more professional. Since applications, resumes, and the like and your first impression when you are looking for work it gives you a huge advantage and saves you money if you can make a nice one!
ReplyDeleteI never knew that Word could accomplish so much until I started on this class! The amount of customization is mind boggling, and this week’s section on form letters was great! I hope to use that if I ever start a small business or need newsletters or something!
ReplyDeleteAnd like most people, I had the same data files problem, but I found them after a while of searching! I made the mistake of downloading the packs for chapters 1-3, but if you go to Scsite.com, look under the suites tab option on the left of the page, and choose Microsoft Office 2007, they have a book called “Microsoft Office 2007: Advanced Concepts and Techniques” and that contained the data files for chapter 4-6 that we’re on now.
