Good and Bad Resumes Examples

Research good and bad examples of resumes. Post the web address of one good and one bad example. Your link may be to a tutorial, a video, etc. Along with each example, be sure to summarize why the resume is either good or bad (for each link). This is required to be eligible for full credit. If your blog username is not comprised of your name, please be sure to identify yourself within your post.

  1. This is an example of a good resume because it is not cluttered, precise, and easy to follow.

This is an example of a bad resume because there is way to much going on, to many fonts/colors and graphics.

  2. My first is an example of a good resume. Actually, there are many on this site...I chose the Executive Administrator. The resume is written in chronological order; the main topics are highlighted with bulleted important information and is easy to read.

My second is the bad example.
By listing hobbies, too much personal information is listed; the header font is too busy and the bulleted information is not done correctly. I find this very hard to read.

That link shows "before and after" resumes. The bad resumes are cluttered and don't focus in clearly enough on what employers are looking for. They are overall disorganized. After they are revised, they highlight the applicant's assets in a clean and concise manner. They are also professional and stylish.

What I like about this site was the fact that you could look at a bad resume, because of its choice of font and poorly conveyed information and then see how it was changed into a good one by adjusting the font and changing the layout.

This site was helpful in the fact that it had so many good examples in a variety of fields. It also had free resources to create a resume.

  5. My first example is a of a good resume. This resume hits all the important points such as who you are, what jobs you have held and how is your in those roles relevant to the job you are applying for. All the information is to the point and well laid out.

My second example is of a poorly written resume. The format isn't appealing to the eye. The applicant isn't calling out what job skills he acquired in these jobs that makes him a good fit for the job he is applying for. in this sample resume the applicant fails to introduce himself or provide a summary what skills that he has that are worth noting.

This page links several examples of good resumes and has other various tips. It points out the use of plain text instead of colors and shading because they don’t fax and/or copy well. Also, refrain from italicizing or underlining important information because they can be misread if your resume is scanned by a potential employer. Other good points are to separate less pertinent experience from all other relevant college and employment experience and to place more significant skills higher on the page.

This page lists a lot of interesting points to a bad resume. Some are funny, some are peculiar, and some made me wonder what a person was thinking to write that on their resume. My favorite reasons for leaving last job, special requests, and typos were: “Responsibility makes me nervous,” “I procrastinate—especially when the task is unpleasant,” and “Instrumental in ruining entire operation for a Midwest chain operation.”

Just for fun check out this video resume builder, it’s pretty good.

  7. One really awful resume I found was at www.job-interview-questions.org/example-bad-resume. This resume is chock full of bad examples, most importantly the lack of job description and precise employment dates. Another major blunder is listing “no college” rather than just voiding that whole component. In the reference section the applicant list one reference with an unknown phone number and another with a phone number followed by a question mark. All in all this resume is extremely unprofessional and the applicant seems careless.

An example of a good resume was found at www.free-resume-example.com, this website provided resumes from many different career fields. I chose to look at the resume for Construction Manager. This resume was well organized and related military experience well. It can be hard to connect military experience into the civilian work force but this resume does so smoothly.

  8. This is an example of a bad resume. The font looks like it should be on a wedding invatation and is not very legible. Most employers do not care for your hobbies anymore.

The next is an example of a goo resume. The information needs to be put in a simple way but still needs to catch the eye of the reader.

Here is young, female looking for a job as an intern for the local mayor’s office using this video resume. I understand that the use of video resumes is relatively a new way to get your name out in the job market. I’m just not sure it’s looked upon by employers in a favorable way.
This had to be a joke, very unprofessional and she didn’t display any relevant qualifications for the position in question. I got the impression she was making a mockery of the mayor’s office. If you’re going to make a video resume at least dress for the job at hand and be able to display your attributes and back those up with qualifications for the job. This may have been an actual attempt at landing an interim job, if so it was done in bad taste and tact.

Here is a young female looking to get a job as a broadcast journalist. Emily’s resume had been an established work in progress in the field that was the job she was looking to make a career. She was very professional in both appearance and how she did her interviews. Emily was able to demonstrate the necessary qualifications and earned herself a BA as well as other educational achievements. If I was hiring a broadcasting journalist I’d figure Emily would get a second interview.

  10. I found this site http://www.professional-resumes.com/resume-samples-professional-resumes.shtm . It has many different one but here is just one example.

http://www.professional-resumes.com/marketing-and-business-management-before.shtml In this resume Wayne has just listed everything briefly as to what he thought the company would need from him in a resume. He really doesnt list anything but past work experience, education, and technical skills.

http://www.professional-resumes.com/marketing-and-business-management-after.shtml . Here is Wayne's resume after it has been expanded on. It now has more detail as to what he has done in his past at work along with a quick summary about his work experience and any additional work he has done.

    - This is an example of a good resume because it is very easy to follow, and it is very neatly done.

    http://www.nelsonjobs.com/CareerCenter/ResumeBad.aspx

This is an example of a bad resume because the font is overly extravagant, way to much information on it, and has hobbies on it which does not relate to the workplace at all.

  12. An example of a bad resume can be found at the following link : http://www.job-application-and-interview-advice.com/free-cv-example.html

This is considered a bad resume because it contains inconsistant and incorrect use of tet formatting (such as the use of bold, italics and different font types). The resume lists gaps in employment history with no explanation to why the candidate was no employed. Many words are spelled incorrectly and sentences are formatted poorly.

An example of a well written and properly formatted resume can be found at the following link: http://damngood.com//sampleresumes/customerservice/1.html
This resume is concise, well formatted and uses proper use of text formatting.

  13. Bad Resume:
    http://www.picksth.com/2009/07/16/resume-tips-bad-resume-example/

You can clearly see that this is a bad resume just by looking at it. The lack of format makes it very hard to read. The spelling mistakes, improper spacing, the use of “I”, and length makes it very unprofessional.

    Good Resume:
    http://www.distinctiveweb.com/example-projects/sample-resumes/sales-executive-resume-sample/

The following website is for professional resume writing services. They had a great portfolio of resume samples that you can view without engaging in services. This resume was visually pleasing to the eyes with its bullet points, correct use of font and clear and concise information. The reader knew what type of position the applicant was looking for, past achievements and what his assets were that he could offer to the new company.

  14. I will start with an example of a bad resume. I have included the link for review: http://picsdigger.com/image/cc0d4a78/. The format looks like it may not have been saved correctly and may have been encoded incorrectly. There is no identification, timeline, separation of roles or employers. The example of a good resume: http://www.resumeedge.com/samples/executives/banking-executive/after-resumeedge.html . This resume is specific to a field. It is divided with objective, accomplishments and experience.

  15. The first example is of a technical resume for an IT professional. It describes all of the person’s achievements and responsibilities without getting to wordy or personal. It is well written, concise, and stands out without being flashy or gimmicky.

    http://www.distinctiveweb.com/example-projects/sample-resumes/it-resume-sample/

The second resume badly written, organized, and doesn’t contain enough information for the employer. This resume would most likely be passed over since the person’s abilities, history, and responsibilities aren’t clearly defined.
